Aincreville is a French commune with 69 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meuse department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Verdun and to the municipality association Pays de Stenay et Val Dunois, founded in 2016 .
geography
The municipality of Aincreville is located in the Argonne countryside , 15 kilometers south of Stenay and about 33 kilometers northwest of Verdun on the border with the Ardennes department . The Andon , a small right tributary of the Meuse, flows through the 9.11 km² municipal area . The landscape is characterized by meadows and fields, only in the south of the municipality is a notable forest area, the Bois des Rappes . The highest point in the municipality is reached in the north at 314 m above sea level. Aincreville is bordered by the neighboring communities Villers-devant-Dun in the north, Doulcon in the northeast, Cléry-le-Grand in the east and southeast, Bantheville in the southwest and west and Tailly (Ardennes department) in the northwest.
Place name
The name of the village first appeared in the 11th century as Ancravilla . It developed through Ancreville (1648), Encreville (1656), Increville (1700) and Aricera-Villa (1717) to the name Aincreville, which has remained in use since 1793 . It is believed that the place name goes back to the Germanic personal name Angeranus .
