The canton of Stenay is a French constituency in the Arrondissement Verdun , in the Département Meuse and in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ); its main town is Stenay .

The canton is located in the northwest of the Meuse department.
history
The canton was established in 1790. By 2015, 19 municipalities belonged to the canton of Stenay. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of municipalities rose to 35 in 2015. 16 of the 17 municipalities of the previous canton of Dun-sur-Meuse were added to the previous 19 municipalities (only the municipality of Vilosnes-Haraumont not).

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton of Stenay included the 19 municipalities of Autréville-Saint-Lambert , Baâlon , Beauclair , Beaufort-en-Argonne , Brouennes , Cesse , Halles-sous-les-Côtes , Inor , Lamouilly , Laneuville -sur-Meuse , Luzy-Saint-Martin , Martincourt-sur-Meuse , Moulins-Saint-Hubert , Mouzay , Nepvant , Olizy-sur-Chiers , Pouilly-sur-Meuse , Stenay (main town) and Wiseppe . Its layout corresponded to an area of 207.89 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 5520.

politics
In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the four voting pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, Évelyne Jacquet / Stéphane Perrin (both DVDs) won against Alain Plun / Laurence Raulet (both DVDs) with a share of the vote of 61.23% (turnout: 51.02%).
