The canton is located in the southwest of the Meuse department south of Bar-le-Duc .

history

The canton was founded in 1790. Until 2015, 17 municipalities belonged to the canton of Ancerville. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of communes rose to 25. In addition to the previous 17 communes, 8 of the 20 communes of the previous canton of Ligny-en-Barrois were added.

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton of Ancerville included the 17 municipalities of Ancerville (main town), Aulnois-en-Perthois , Baudonvilliers , Bazincourt-sur-Saulx , Brillon-en-Barrois , Cousances-les-Forges , Haironville , Juvigny-en-Perthois , Lavincourt , Lisle-en-Rigault , Montplonne , Rupt-aux-Nonains , Saudrupt , Savonnières-en-Perthois , Sommelonne , Stainville and Ville-sur-Saulx . Its layout corresponded to an area of ​​200.70 km 2 .

In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the three voting pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, the team Jean-Louis Canova / Hélène Sigot-Lemoine (both DVD) won against Lionel Chevalley / Annick Gerard (both FN ) with a share of the vote of 57.63% (turnout: 51.33%) .
