The canton of Ligny-en-Barrois is a French constituency in the arrondissements of Bar-le-Duc and Commercy , in the Meuse department and in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). The main town of the canton is the municipality of Ligny-en-Barrois .

history
The canton was established in 1790. By 2015, 20 municipalities belonged to the canton of Ligny-en-Barrois. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of communes rose to 41 in 2015. Of the previous 20 communes, no fewer than 12 communes moved to other cantons. The 4 municipalities of Loisey-Culey, Nançois-sur-Ornain, Salmagne and Willeroncourt moved to the canton of Vaucouleurs , and the 8 municipalities of Guerpont, Maulan, Nant-le-Grand, Nant-le-Petit, Silmont, Tannois, Tronville-en to the canton of Ancerville -Barrois and Velaines. In addition to the remaining 8 communes, all 19 communes of the previous canton of Gondrecourt-le-Château and all 14 communes of the previous canton of Montiers-sur-Saulx were added.

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton of Ligny-en-Barrois included the 20 municipalities of Chanteraine Givrauval , Guerpont , Ligny-en-Barrois (main town), Loisey-Culey , Longeaux , Maulan , Menaucourt , Naix-aux-Forges , Nançois-sur-Ornain , Nant-le-Grand , Nant-le-Petit , Nantois , Saint-Amand-sur-Ornain , Salmagne , Silmont , Tannois , Tronville-en-Barrois , Velaines and Willeroncourt . Its layout corresponded to an area of 225.23 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 5511.

In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the three voting pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, Elisabeth Guerquin / Daniel Ruhland (both DVD) won against Anne-Marie Fernandes / Bernard Simonin (both FN ) with 58.87% of the vote (turnout: 52.10%).
