The canton of Montmédy is a French constituency in the Arrondissement Verdun , in the Département Meuse and in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ); its main town is Montmédy .

The canton is located in the north of the Meuse department.
history
The canton was established in 1790. By 2015, 25 municipalities belonged to the canton of Montmédy. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of municipalities rose to 45 in 2015. All 20 municipalities of the previous canton of Damvillers were added to the previous 25 municipalities .

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton of Montmédy included the 25 municipalities of Avioth , Bazeilles-sur-Othain , Breux , Chauvency-le-Château , Chauvency-Saint-Hubert , Écouviez , Flassigny , Han-lès-Juvigny , Iré -le-Sec , Jametz , Juvigny-sur-Loison , Louppy-sur-Loison , Marville , Montmédy (main town), Quincy-Landzécourt , Remoiville , Thonne-la-Long , Thonne-les-Près , Thonne-le-Thil , Thonnelle , Velosnes , Verneuil-Grand , Verneuil-Petit , Vigneul-sous-Montmédy and Villécloye . Its layout corresponded to an area of 243.65 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 5514.

politics
In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the three voting pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, the team Dominique Aarnink-Géminel / Claude Léonard (both UMP) won against Francis Dossogne / Nicole Samson (both FN ) and Marylène Gracia / Jacques Stalars (both PS ) with a share of the votes of 44.52% (Turnout: 53.83%).
