The canton of Étain is a French constituency in the Arrondissement Verdun , in the Département Meuse and in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ); its capital is Étain .
history
The canton was established in 1790. By 2015, 26 municipalities belonged to the canton of Étain. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of communes rose to 42 in 2015. Of the previous 26 communes, no fewer than 16 communes moved to other cantons; 12 municipalities to the new canton Belleville-sur-Meuse and 4 municipalities to the new canton Bouligny . All 32 municipalities of the previous canton Fresnes-en-Woëvre were added to the remaining 10 municipalities .

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton of Étain included the 26 municipalities of Abaucourt-Hautecourt , Blanzée , Boinville-en-Woëvre , Braquis , Buzy-Darmont , Châtillon-sous-les-Côtes , Damloup , Dieppe-sous-Douaumont , Eix , Étain (Main place), foameix-ornel , Fromezey , Gincrey , Grimaucourt-en-Woëvre , Gussainville , Herméville-en-Woëvre , Lanhères , Maucourt-sur-Orne , Mogeville , Moran Ville , Moulainville , Morgemoulin , Parfondrupt , Rouvres- en-Woëvre , Saint-Jean-lès-Buzy and Warcq . Its layout corresponded to an area of 239.00 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 5508.

politics
In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the four voting pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, the pairing Jean Picart / Marie-Astrid Strauss (both PCF) won against Jean-Marie Cousin / Nicole Jourdan (both UDI ) and Jean-Marc Macel / Christelle Marc (both FN ) with a share of the vote 35.98% (turnout: 58.20%).
