The canton of Clermont-en-Argonne is a French constituency in the Arrondissement Verdun , in the Département Meuse and in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ); its main town is Clermont-en-Argonne .
history
The canton was established in 1790. By 2015, 14 municipalities belonged to the canton of Clermont-en-Argonne. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of communes rose to 50 in 2015. In addition to the previous 14 communes, there were all 17 communes of the previous canton of Montfaucon-d'Argonne , all 12 communes of the previous canton of Varennes-en-Argonne , 6 of the 22 communes of the previous canton of Charny-sur-Meuse and the municipality of Vilosnes-Haraumont from the canton of Dun-sur-Meuse .

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton of Clermont-en-Argonne included the 14 municipalities of Aubréville , Brabant-en-Argonne , Brocourt-en-Argonne , Le Claon , Clermont-en-Argonne (main town) and Dombasle-en -Argonne , Froidos , Futeau , Les Islettes , Jouy-en-Argonne , Le Neufour , Neuvilly-en-Argonne , Rarécourt and Récicourt . Its layout corresponded to an area of 200.08 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 5504.

politics
In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the three voting pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, the pairing Jean-François Lamorlette / Arlette Palanson (both UMP) won against David Le Budet / Thérèse Lenormand (both FN ) and Christian Ponsignon / Françoise Tessier (both PS) with a share of the votes of 52.48 % (Turnout: 59.09%).
