The canton of Saint-Mihiel is a French constituency in the Arrondissement Commercy , in the Département Meuse and in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ); its main town is Saint-Mihiel .

The canton is located in the southern half of the Meuse department on its eastern border.
history
The canton was founded in 1790. By 2015, 20 municipalities belonged to the canton of Saint-Mihiel. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of communes rose to 34 in 2015. All 14 communes of the previous canton of Vigneulles-lès-Hattonchâtel were added to the previous 20 communes .

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton of Saint-Mihiel included the 20 municipalities of Apremont-la-Forêt , Bislée , Bouconville-sur-Madt , Broussey-Raulecourt , Chauvoncourt , Han-sur-Meuse , Lacroix-sur-Meuse , Lahayville , Loupmont , Maizey , Montsec , Les Paroches , Rambucourt , Ranzières , Richecourt , Rouvrois-sur-Meuse , Saint-Mihiel (main town), Troyon , Varnéville and Xivray-et-Marvoisin . Its layout corresponded to an area of 267.92 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 5517.

politics
In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the four voting pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, the team Marianne Prot / Bruno Rota (both FN) won against Sylvain Denoyelle / Marie-Christine Tonner (both UDI ) and Sèverine François / Thibaut Villemin (both PS ) with a share of the vote of 38.29% (Turnout: 59.17%).
