Melchior Kirchhofer

Melchior Kirchhofer (born January 3, 1775 in Schaffhausen ; † February 13, 1853 in Stein am Rhein ) was a Swiss Reformed pastor and church historian.

Life

The offspring of a bourgeois family of the city of Schaffhausen studied in Marburg , where he lived with Jung-Stilling . After ordination as a clergyman in 1797, he became pastor of Schlatt in 1798. From 1808 to 1853 he was pastor in Stein am Rhein ( Canton Schaffhausen ). From 1809 he was also school inspector for the Stein district, and from 1833 a church councilor.

In 1840 Kirchhofer received an honorary doctorate from the theological faculty in Marburg.

Kirchhofer made a name for himself primarily as a Reformation historian.
