Buxières-sous-les-Côtes is a French commune with 287 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meuse department in the Grand Est region ( Lorraine until 2015 ). The place is in the canton of Saint-Mihiel (until 2015: canton of Vigneulles-lès-Hattonchâtel ) in the Arrondissement of Commercy .
geography
The municipality is located in the Lorraine Regional Nature Park on the eastern edge of the Côte de Meuse and on the western bank of Lac de Madine . The commune is made up of the villages of Buxières-sous-les-Côtes, Buxerulles and Woinville.
history
Buxières-sous-les-Côtes was first mentioned as Buxarias in 709. The name alludes to the box trees that were planted here. The merger of the three predecessor municipalities Buxerulles , Buxières-sous-les-Côtes (old municipality) and Woinville took place on January 1, 1973.
