Lignières-sur-Aire is a French commune with 53 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meuse department in the Grand Est region (before 2016 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement Commercy and the canton Dieue-sur-Meuse (until 2015 the canton Pierrefitte-sur-Aire ).
geography
The municipality is located about 17 kilometers east-northeast of Bar-le-Duc in the center of the Meuse department. The municipality consists of the place Lignières-sur-Aire near the Aire . Large parts of the east of the municipality are wooded ( Bois de Lignières and Bois de Haut Lieu ). Neighboring communities are Baudémont in the north, Courcelles-en-Barrois in the north-east and east, Ménil-aux-Bois in the east and south-east, Dagonville in the south, Lavallée in the west and Levoncourt in the north-west and north.
history
The name of today's community was first mentioned in 1106 as Liners in a bull by Pope Paschal II . In the Middle Ages the community belonged to the Duchy of Bar and then to the Duchy of Lorraine . More precisely to the Amt ( Bailliage ) Bar. With this rule Lignières-sur-Aire fell to France in 1766. Until the French Revolution , the community was in the Grand-gouvernement de Lorraine-et-Barrois . From 1793 to 1801 the municipality was assigned to the Commercy district and part of the canton of Dagonville, then from 1801 to 2015 part of the canton of Pierrefitte-sur-Aire. Since 1801 Lignières-sur-Aire has been assigned to the Arrondissement of Commercy. Until 1919 the municipality was called Lignières .
