Montigny-lès-Vaucouleurs is a French commune with 68 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meuse department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ); it belongs to the Arrondissement Commercy and the community association Communauté de communes de Commercy-Void-Vaucouleurs .
geography
Montigny-lès-Vaucouleurs is located around 22 kilometers southwest of the city of Toul in the south of the Meuse department. In terms of transport, the community is a few kilometers south of Route nationale 4 with the next connection in Void-Vacon. The place is on the Ruisseau de Montigny . Large parts of the municipal area are forested (Forêt Domaniale de Montigny and Le Grand Bois). The parish consists of the village of Montigny-lès-Vaucouleurs and the hamlets of Fraicul and Toulon.
Neighboring municipalities are Vaucouleurs in the north and northeast, Neuville-lès-Vaucouleurs in the east and southeast, Burey-en-Vaux in the southeast, Badonvilliers-Gérauvilliers in the south and Mauvages in the west.
history
Like all parishes in the area, the parish suffered from conflict in the Middle Ages. The worst devastation was caused by the Hundred Years War and the Thirty Years War . The name of today's municipality was first mentioned in a document in 1011 under the Latin name Montiniacum . In the Middle Ages, the community belonged to the Barrois mouvant and was part of the Champagne . Montigny-lès-Vaucouleurs belonged to the Gondrecourt district from 1793 to 1801. Also since 1793 to the canton of Vaucouleurs. The parish has been assigned to the Arrondissement of Commercy since 1801.

economy
From the 17th century to the end of the 20th century, the parish was famous for its faience pottery. The faience factories were the most important line of business alongside agriculture.
