Lavallée is a French commune with 92 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meuse department in the Grand Est region (before 2016 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement Commercy and the canton Dieue-sur-Meuse (until 2015 the canton Pierrefitte-sur-Aire ).

The municipality is located about 14 kilometers east-northeast of Bar-le-Duc in the center of the Meuse department on the Ruisseau de Lavallée . The community consists of Lavallée and a few other houses. Large parts of the west and south of the municipality are forested. The most important forest area is called Bois du Grand Canton . There is a wind farm on the north-western boundary of the municipality. Neighboring communities are Levoncourt in the north, Lignières-sur-Aire in the east, Dagonville in the south-east, Salmagne and Loisey in the south, Géry in the south and south-west and Érize-Saint-Dizier in the west.

history

The name of today's municipality was first mentioned in a document in the 10th century under the Latin name Vallis . In the Middle Ages the community belonged to the Duchy of Bar and then to the Duchy of Lorraine . More precisely to the Amt ( Bailliage ) Bar. With this rule Lavallée fell to France in 1766. Until the French Revolution , the community was in the Grand-gouvernement de Lorraine-et-Barrois . From 1793 to 1801 the parish was assigned to the Commercy district and part of the canton of Dagonville. And from 1801 to 2015 part of the canton of Pierrefitte-sur-Aire. Lavallée has been part of the Arrondissement Commercy since 1801.
