Vigneulles-lès-Hattonchâtel is a French commune with 1,572 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meuse department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It was the capital of the canton of Vigneulles-lès-Hattonchâtel until 2015 and has been part of the canton of Saint-Mihiel in the Arrondissement of Commercy ever since .

geography

The municipality is located 40 kilometers southwest of Metz in the Lorraine Regional Nature Park . The river Yron has its source in the municipality .

history

The municipality was created in 1973 from the merger of the villages of Billy-sous-les-Côtes, Creuë, Hattonchâtel, Hattonville, Saint-Benoît-en-Woëvre and Viéville-sous-les-Côtes.
