The Abbey of l'Étanche is a ruined monastery near Vigneulles-lès-Hattonchâtel .
history
The abbey was founded after an appeal from Faverolles near Deuxnouds-aux-Bois around 1144 by Philip von Belval, who was also its first abbot. In 1632 it was destroyed by the Swedes in the Thirty Years' War . From 1743 to 1770 nine cells were again filled with monastic life. In 1790, during the French Revolution , the abbey and its possessions were declared national property. On December 5, 1984, the buildings were placed under the protection of the Monument historique . In 2017, a subscription was launched by the Fondation du Patrimoine to fund urgent work. [outdated]
