Gondrecourt-le-Chateau is a French commune in the department of Meuse in the region of Grand Est (2015 Lorraine ). It was the capital of the canton of Gondrecourt-le-Château until 2015 , since then the municipality has belonged to the canton of Ligny-en-Barrois , and has 1085 inhabitants (January 1, 2017).

The municipality is located on the upper Ornain in the south of the Meuse department, about 40 kilometers southwest of Toul .

Personalities
Gondrecourt is the birthplace of the historian Fernand Braudel (1902–1985) and the former Gaullist MP and Minister Louis Jacquinot (1898–1993).
