Emil Gustav Theodor von Schenckendorff (* May 21, 1837 in Soldin , † March 1, 1915 in Berlin ) was a Prussian reform pedagogue, member of the House of Representatives, officer , Reich Telegraph Directorate and promoter of the sports movement.

Life

Emil was a son of cashiers Moritz of Schenckendorff (1806-1888) and his first wife Johanna, nee Borkenhagen (from 1,811 to 1,857).

Career

After his departure from the Prussian army, Schenckendorff held the official post of a telegraph directorate from 1873. From 1882 to 1898 and again from 1904 until his death in 1915 he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives , where he represented the constituency of Liegnitz District 8 (city and district of Görlitz - Lauban), he belonged to the faction of the National Liberal Party . He also held the post of city ​​councilor of Görlitz (1878–1881). From 1888 to 1915 Schenckendorff was a city ​​councilor in Görlitz.

In 1891 Schenckendorff founded the Central Committee for the Promotion of Youth and Folk Games and took over the position of chairman. It was through him that the young game movement experienced its first militarization. He was also a member of the Görlitz Freemason Lodge "To the Crowned Snake" and received an honorary doctorate from the University of Kiel on May 21, 1911 .

Emil von Schenckendorff was buried in the Görlitz cemetery.
