The Ornain is a river in France that runs in the Grand Est region . It rises under the name Maldite in the municipality of Grand , initially drains in a north-westerly direction, but swings to the south-west at Revigny-sur-Ornain and flows after 116 kilometers at Étrepy as a right tributary into the Saulx . On its way, the Ornain crosses the Vosges , Meuse and Marne departments . Between Houdelaincourt and the estuary, the Canal de la Marne au Rhin , or its branch canal to Houdelaincourt, runs parallel to the river . The river is used to supply the canal with water.

  3. a b The information on the length of the river is based on the information about the Ornain at SANDRE (French), accessed on July 10, 2009, rounded to full kilometers. The drainage route over the Maas (French: Meuse) to the North Sea mentioned here is obviously incorrect!
