Villeroy-sur-Méholle is a French commune with 37 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meuse department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ); it belongs to the Arrondissement Commercy and the community association Communauté de communes de Commercy-Void-Vaucouleurs . Until 2015 it was part of the canton of Void-Vacon .
geography
Villeroy-sur-Méholle is located around 45 kilometers west-southwest of the city of Nancy in the south of the Meuse department. In terms of transport, the community is a few kilometers south of Route nationale 4 with the next connection in Void-Vacon. The place is located on the Méholle and the Canal de la Marne au Rhin . These partially form the municipal boundary.
Neighboring communities are Sauvoy in the north, Vaucouleurs in the east, Mauvages in the southeast, south and southwest and Broussey-en-Blois in the west and northwest.
history
The name of today's municipality was first mentioned in a document in 1049 under the Latin name Vileregium . In the Middle Ages, the community belonged to the Bailliage Vitry-le-François within Champagne . The place belonged from 1793 to 1801 to the District Commercy. Also from 1793 to 2015 to the canton of Void (-Vacon). The community has also been assigned to the Arrondissement of Commercy since 1801. Until 1924, the municipality had the name Villeroy without today's addition.
