Le Neufour is a French commune with 72 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meuse department in the Grand Est region (before 2016: Lorraine ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement Verdun , the canton Clermont-en-Argonne and the municipal association Argonne-Meuse . With an area of 0.92 km², it is the smallest municipality in the Meuse department.
geography
The Argonne village of Le Neufour is located in the Biesme Valley between Les Islettes in the south and Le Claon in the north. Other neighboring municipalities are the canton capital Clermont-en-Argonne in the east and the municipalities of Sainte-Menehould in the Marne department in the south-west and Florent-en-Argonne in the north-west.
history
The community name goes back to the name Le Neuf-Four (etymologically "the new oven") from the 15th century, when glassmakers used wood from the nearby forest to operate glass ovens for the production of bottles and garden bells.

Attractions
- Saint-François-d'Assise church, built in 1866 in neo-Romanesque style. The stained glass windows depict events from the First World War .
- Fountain of St. Francis , was built as an offering to St. Francis to keep the plague away from the village.
