Chauvency-le-Château is a French commune with 248 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meuse department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Verdun and the canton of Montmédy .
geography
The municipality of Chauvency-le-Château is located on the Chiers , a tributary of the Meuse , a few kilometers south of the border with Belgium between the cities of Montmédy and Stenay .

history
In 1285, Louis V von Loon, Count of Chiny , who lived in Montmédy , and his brother Gerhard, Seigneur de Chauvency, organized a splendid festival with a jousting tournament to which they invited more than 500 knights. The troubadour Jacques Bretel wrote a report about this festival, which was decorated with numerous coats of arms and miniatures: "Le Tournoi de Chauvency".
