Beaumont-en-Verdunois is a French commune with 0 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meuse department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Verdun and the Grand Verdun community association .
This municipality is located around 15 kilometers north of Verdun and has no inhabitants: it is one of nine villages that were completely destroyed in the First World War during the Battle of Verdun and were never rebuilt. After the end of the hostilities, it was decided to preserve the community, which had been declared a "fallen village for France", in memory of the events there. Reasons for preventing resettlement were also the pollution of the soil with duds, remains of poison gas, other war material and the unburied dead. Today the church is administered by a three-person council. The three people are appointed by the head of the department (the prefect). Nearby is Louvemont , another ruined village that has not been rebuilt either.
The former place can be reached via a side street of the D 905 from Vacherauville to Ville-devant-Chaumont .
The nine villages destroyed are Beaumont, Bezonvaux , Cumières , Douaumont , Fleury , Haumont , Louvemont , Ornes and Vaux .
