Montplonne is a French commune with 141 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meuse department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). The municipality is part of the Bar-le-Duc arrondissement , the canton of Ancerville and the Portes de Meuse municipal association founded in 2016 .
geography
The community is located in a damp valley that is irrigated by numerous springs. These flow into the eponymous brook that crosses the place. Montplonne is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Tannois in the east, Nant-le-Grand in the south-east, Stainville in the south, Lavincourt in the south-west, Bazincourt-sur-Saulx in the west, Brillon-en-Barrois in the north-west and by the canton Bar-le- Duc-1 located communes of Combles-en-Barrois in the north-west, Bar-le-Duc and Savonnières-denat-Bar in the north and Longeville-en-Barrois in the north-east.
Origin of name
The village of Celtic origin was once called "Wakeplonne". As a result of transmission errors in the registers, the place name changed over time to Montplonne.
