Henri Clemens Birven
Henri Clemens Birven (born March 10, 1883 in Aachen , † January 9, 1969 in Berlin ) was a German writer , esotericist and a representative of magical idealism .
Birven studied electrical engineering, philology and philosophy in Berlin and was a teacher. He knew Karl Germer , whom he described as the “only friend of the deceased” in response to Hermann Joseph Metzger's obituary. He was also known to Gustav Meyrink and Aleister Crowley . Horst E. Miers called Birven the best expert on Crowley's writings. Between 1927 and 1932 he was editor of the magazine Hain der Isis . He ran a “Teletes Magiological Studio” around 1930 in Berlin-Wittenau . He had a large library that was robbed by the National Socialists . After the war, his books were distributed to various state libraries.
Birven mentions in his book "The Art of Living in Yoga and Magic" that he, together with Gustav Meyrink and Ernst Peithman, a prominent representative of the Gnostic-Catholic Church , did research on the mysterious identity of the founder Anna Sprengel, a high adept of the Rosicrucians from Germany, of the Golden Dawn is said to have operated.
