Stainville is 15 kilometers south of Bar-le-Duc on the Saulx River . Stainville is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Montplonne in the north and north-west, Nant-le-Grand in the north-east, Nant-le-Petit in the east, Ménil-sur-Saulx in the east and south-east, Juvigny-en-Perthois in the south, Savonnières-en- Perthois in the southwest and Aulnois-en-Perthois and Lavincourt in the west.
The route nationale 4 and the former route nationale 397 (today's D997) cross in the municipality .
