Endo International is an Irish pharmaceutical company headquartered in Malvern , Pennsylvania .

history

Endo was created in 1997 through a management buy-out in which several former managers of the pharmaceutical company DuPont Merck bought out the generics division Endo Laboratories LLC. This division itself goes back to the company Intravenous Products of America , which was founded in 1920 and changed its name to Endo Products in 1935 . Endo Products was bought by DuPont in 1970 and established in 1994 as a generics division within the DuPont Merck Group.

In 2000, the now independent company Endo Pharmaceuticals took over the Algos Pharmaceutical Corporation and went public. In 2008, Novartis sold Endo the license to market the pain gel Voltaren in the United States.

criticism

In connection with the opioid epidemic in the United States of America in particular Endos are combination drugs Percocet ( oxycodone and acetaminophen ) and Percodan (oxycodone and aspirin ) in the criticism, because they can lead to strong dependencies. In 2017, the Food and Drug Administration asked Endo to remove the product Opana ER ( oxymorphone ) from the market. The reason given was the strong abuse among drug addicts.
