Homécourt is a French commune with 6,176 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in the Grand Est region (before 2016 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Briey and was the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of Homécourt until 2015 , since then the municipality has belonged to the canton of Jarny .
geography
Homécourt is located on the Orne River on the border with the Moselle department . Homécourt is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Briey in the north, Jœuf in the northeast, Montois-la-Montagne in the east, Sainte-Marie-aux-Chênes in the south and southeast, Auboué in the south and west and Moutiers in the north-west.
history
Homécourt is first mentioned in the 12th century. A Wucourt or Vuecourt is mentioned as early as 1132. The ruins of the castle complex were named castrum Rista after the Riste de Lunéville family, which was razed in 1215 by Henry II.
From the Franco-German War in 1870/71, Homécourt was a border town to the German Empire . Mining began in Homécourt at the end of the 19th century. With the mining of iron ore, the mining and steel industry settled in Homécourt. The decline of industry began in the second half of the 20th century.

Culture and sights
The archaeological finds from a Franconian necropolis can now be found in the Metz Museum. Other sights include the ruins of the Château forte de Riste from the 12th century and the Château d'Homécourt from the end of the 19th century.
The Nativité de la Vierge church was built in 1828. Next to it are the Old Chapel and the Saint-Paul Chapel.
