Piennes is 15 kilometers northwest of Briey on the border with the Meuse department . The Pienne , a tributary of the Crusnes, has its source in the municipality .

The Cités de Landres district belongs to Piennes and, like several others in the vicinity, was built as a workers' settlement for the workers of the former Mourière colliery .
