Christiane Martel (born January 18, 1932 in Piennes , Département Meurthe-et-Moselle as Christiane Magnani ) is a French actress . She was Miss Universe in 1953.

Since Martel had successfully participated in some regional beauty pageants from 1950 , she was proposed for the choice of Miss France in 1953 . Sylviane Carpentier won this competition , but Martel was - after a unanimous vote - sent to the USA in the same year as the representative of France to take part in the Miss Universe election in Long Beach ( California ) . She won this election, replacing Armi Kuusela (* 1934) from Finland.

She was offered several film roles in California and from 1954 onwards she made her debut as an actress in Hollywood. After her career as an actress, she was repeatedly present as a presenter in the media, u. a. in the 1989, 1993 and 2007 Miss Universe elections held in Mexico . She was last seen on television as co-host on the occasion of the Miss France election on December 3, 2011.

Martel was married to the businessman Ronnie Marengo, from whom she divorced after a short time in 1955. In her second marriage, she married the Mexican businessman Miguel Alemán Velasco, a son of the politician Miguel Alemán Valdés, and had three daughters and a son with him.
