Werner Kremm (born October 7, 1951 in Sânnicolau Mare ( German  Großsanktnikolaus ), People's Republic of Romania ) is a Romanian author and journalist .

Life

Kremm comes from the ethnic group of the Romanian-German Banat Swabians . He studied German and Romanian in Timișoara . He was a founding member of the literary group Action Group Banat , which existed from 1972 to 1975. The group of authors was temporarily tolerated, but later harassed by the Romanian secret service Securitate . Kremm withdrew from the literary public. Kremm remained as the only member of the group in Romania; the other members left for the Federal Republic of Germany until 1988 .

Werner Kremm then worked as a journalist for the daily newspaper "Neuer Weg", today the Allgemeine Deutsche Zeitung for Romania . Later he was the head of the editorial office of the Banater Zeitung . Among other things, he published in the Tagesspiegel and worked as a translator.

Kremm in the Romanian German discussion

Around 2010, suspicions against some Romanian German authors, including Oskar Pastior , of having worked with the Securitate increased.

In the resulting intellectual debate between Romanian German authors, Kremm said that if he were "absurdly offered a Pastior Prize , I would not accept it - precisely because I would not accept a prize that was ultimately donated by a former Securitate informant." at least had a role model function for young Romanian German literature, as well as for the action group . Kremm took the position that "a coming to terms [...] through Romania's writing intellectuality [...] is almost non-existent". After the Romanian Revolution in 1989 , he had hoped, “now the pigeonhole literature would finally be published. Nothing has happened: There was no literature in pigeon holes because Romanian intellectuality does not tend to be revolutionary in terms of mentality. "
