Anton Sterbling

Anton Sterbling (born April 12, 1953 in Sânnicolau Mare ( German  Großsanktnikolaus ), People's Republic of Romania ) is a German university professor and writer .

Life

Anton Sterbling attended the German-language general education school in his birthplace Sânnicolau Mare from 1960 to 1968 and the German-language grammar school (Lyzeum) from 1968 to 1972. He then studied electrical engineering at the Institute for Production Engineers in Reșița from 1972 to 1975 . He is co-founder of the regime-critical Romanian-German authors group, the Banat group . In 1975 he was relocated to the Federal Republic of Germany and with it a new professional orientation.

Sterbling began studying sociology, economics and science at the University of Mannheim with a degree in sociology in May 1981. From 1982 to 1997, Sterbling worked at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg - in the last position as senior assistant and private lecturer . Here he did his doctorate in 1987 with his dissertation on elites in the modernization process . 1993 followed the habilitation in the field of sociology. From 1993 to 1994 Sterbling took over a professorship at the University of Heidelberg and from 1996 to 1997 he was the substitute for the Chair of Sociology at the University of Bonn . From November 1, 1997 until his retirement on April 1, 2019, Sterbling was Professor of Sociology and Education at the University of the Saxon Police (FH) . He was a co-applicant and supervising professor of the Graduate School for Cultural Orientations and Social Structures in Southeastern Europe , approved by the German Research Foundation (DFG) , which was set up on October 1, 2006 at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena and the University of Erfurt and existed until the end of 2016.
