Bálint Balla
Bálint Balla (born July 7, 1928 in Budapest ; † June 25, 2018 in Berlin ) was a Hungarian-German sociologist .
Live and act
After graduating from high school in 1944 and studying law and political science in Budapest ( doctorate in 1951), he worked in wholesaling, turned to sociology , studied at the social research center at the University of Münster from 1965–67 and then went to the Technical University of Berlin as a senior assistant . In 1969 he co-founded the Evangelical Academy for Hungary in Europe in Bern. In 1971 he completed his habilitation in sociology at the Technical University of Berlin, where he worked as a professor of general sociology until his retirement in 1993 and as a visiting professor at other German universities and in Romania.
His studies on cadre management (1972) and especially on a sociology of scarcity (1978) earned him reputation. He was the “honorary spokesman” of the European Sociology Section in the German Sociological Society (DGS).
In 1991 he was awarded the Imre Nagy plaque and in 2002 an honorary doctorate from the University of Budapest. He has published around 50 scientific and general books and has also worked as an author, publicist and translator from Hungarian.
Balla was buried in the Grunewald cemetery.
