The Route nationale 52 , or N 52 or RN 52 for short , is a French national road .

Current course of the road

The current national road exists in two sections due to the downgraded sections parallel to motorways in 2006: The first section is between junction 35 of autobahn 4 and junction 2 of autobahn 30 , partly as an expressway on the former route of national road 412 . The second section leads from the end of the A30 motorway to the Belgian A28 and is mainly a new route as an expressway. The latter is to be expanded into a motorway and integrated into the A30.

Historic course of the road

The historic national road was first established in 1824 as a link between national road 53 in Uckange and Longwy . It emerged from Route Impériale 63.

In 1973 the route of the national road 412 from Florange to Woippy was taken over. The section between Florange and Uckange has been graduated. In addition, it was expanded to become an expressway and removed from the towns. At Longwy she was given a bypass that surrounds the city to the south, west and north and leads to the Belgian border:

In 1998, the route between Crusnes and Havange was relocated to a newly opened parallel expressway, part of which became the A30. The old route was given the number N521. In 2006, the sections parallel to the motorway were downgraded, so that the national road now runs on two separate sections.

From Uckange to Aumetz , the N 52 operated as Reichsstraße 355 during the occupation of France in World War II .

Side branches

N 52a

The Route nationale 52 ^A , or N 52 ^A or RN 52 ^{A for} short , was established as a side branch of the N 52 in 1933. The national road ran from the N 52 in Longwy via Longlaville to the Luxembourg border, where it merged into the Luxembourg national road 5 . Until 1824, this route was part of the Route Impériale 21. In 1973, the route was integrated into National Road 18 and downgraded to Départementstrasse 918 ^A in 2006 . Their length was almost six kilometers.
