ferry Dover ( then : A2to London )

The Route nationale 1 , or N 1 or RN 1 for short , is a French national road that ran from Paris to Bray-Dunes on the border with Belgium until 2006 . Due to competition from the A 16 car route, only three short sections are left of the original route.

history

In 1824, the N1 was built as the successor to Route impériale 1 between Notre Dame in Paris and Calais. Their length was 272.5 kilometers. In Calais it was linked to the N40 and N43. There is also the narrowest part of the English Channel, over which there are ferry connections to Dover, from where there is a road to London, which has been known as the A2 road since 1922 . In 1973 the N1 between Beauvais and Abbeville was relocated to a guided tour via Amiens (today signposted as Département road D1001). From Beauvais to Breuteuil it got the route of the N181, from there to Amiens the route of the N16. Between Amiens and Yzeux, the N35 A , a bypass road of the N35 opened in 1976, was added to it, and then the N35 route to Abbeville. In addition, the national Route 1 took over from Calais to the Belgian border , the Route nationale 40 (current name Department Street D 940). Since 2006 there have been only very short sections of the national road in the Paris area and to the junctions of the A16.

Side branches

N 1d

The N 1 D was a side branch of the N1, which was put into operation in 1977 as a connection to junction 2 of the A1. It was renumbered to N401 in 1978 and has been the RNIL401 since 2006.

N1001

The N1001 was a side branch of the N1 from 1994 to 2006. It ran from junction 31 'Amiens Sud' of the A29 to the N1. Commissioning took place at the same time as the section of Autoroute 29 between this junction and the A16. Today it bears the number D1001.
