history
The name comes from the Latin bellus , beautiful, and mons , mountain, and the river on which the place is located. Beaumont has been an urban center at a crossroads since the 1st century AD. In the Middle Ages , the place developed around a Carolingian church, which was built on the site of a Roman fort . It was the center of the county of Beaumont-sur-Oise .
In the run-up to the French Revolution , the Beaumont grain market was the starting point of the so-called " flour war " on April 27, 1775 , when a crowd of people outraged the high prices of grain , flour and bread and finally plundered the market. The unrest spread quickly and also reached the suburbs of Paris.
The Basses Coutures site near Beaumont-sur-Oise was discovered and excavated in 2011 while exploring a building area.
