Courcelles-sur-Viosne is a place and a municipality in northern France with 268 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Val-d'Oise department in the Île-de-France region ( France ).
location
The place Courcelles lies on the river Viosne , a tributary of the Oise , at an altitude of approx. 50 m above sea level. d. M. approx. 41 km (driving distance) northwest of Paris in the landscape of the Vexin near the border with Normandy . The town of Pontoise is only about 10 km to the south-east. The municipality is part of the Vexin français Regional Nature Park .

The number of inhabitants remained stable for a long time; it has increased slightly since the 1960s because of its relative proximity to the greater Paris area.
economy
In earlier centuries the inhabitants lived on the produce of their fields and gardens as self-sufficient ; cattle breeding was also carried out on a small scale. Agriculture and retail trade continue to play a major role in the community's economic life. Some houses are designated as holiday homes ( gîtes ).
history
Small finds from the Neolithic Age were discovered about one kilometer south of the church ; In Roman and Gallo-Roman times, the Chaussée Jules César led through what is now the municipality. In the years 1100 and 1127 the place is mentioned for the first time under the name Corcella or Curcellis . The local church was built shortly afterwards.
Attractions
- A well from Gallo-Roman times is on private property. Nevertheless, it has been recognized as a Monument historique since 1942 .
- The parish church of Saint-Lucien was probably completed in 1161; The bell tower with its pointed stone helmet and the southern part of the nave , made of quarry stone , still date from this time . The flat-closing, but two-aisled choir and the northern part of the two-aisled nave were renovated in the early Gothic style (i.e. without tracery windows ) in the 13th century . The unusual church building has been recognized as a monument historique since 1908 .
- The Manoir de Courcelles is a 17th century aristocratic residence with later additions.
- A huge half-timbered mill complex on the banks of the Viosne dates back to the 19th century.
- On the outskirts there is a wash house ( lavoir ) from the 19th century directly on the river Viosne.
- A monolithic paw cross from the 13th century stands directly on the remains of the Roman road.
