Parmain is a French municipality with 5549 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Val-d'Oise in the region of Ile-de-France . It is part of the canton of L'Isle-Adam in the Pontoise arrondissement . The inhabitants are called Parminois (es) .
geography
Parmain is located in the Vexin ( Vexin français Regional Nature Park ) on the Oise , about thirty kilometers north of Paris. The Sausseron flows into the Oise on the southeastern edge of the municipality .
Parmain is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Hédouville in the north, Champagne-sur-Oise in the northeast, L'Isle-Adam in the east, Valmondois in the south and Nesles-la-Vallée in the west.
The municipality consists of the districts Jouy-le-Comte , Boulonville and Grand Val
history
In 1228 Parmain and Jouy-le-Comte were first mentioned in a document in a donation between the knight Jehan de Parmeng and the Cistercian Abbey of Notre-Dame du Val. The church of Jouy-le-Comte was built in the 13th century. In Jouy-le-Comte, the Knights of the Templar Order maintained a command post.
