Guiry-en-Vexin is a place and a commune in northern France with 155 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Val-d'Oise department in the Île-de-France region ( France ).
location
The place Guiry-en-Vexin is at an altitude of about 100 m above sea level. d. M. about 55 kilometers (driving distance) northwest of Paris in the landscape of the Vexin near the border with Normandy . The municipality is part of the Vexin français Regional Nature Park .

economy
In earlier centuries the inhabitants lived on the produce of their fields and gardens as self-sufficient ; cattle breeding was also carried out on a small scale. Agriculture and retail trade continue to play a major role in the community's economic life.
history
The first permanent settlements existed as early as the Neolithic , but the presence of hunters and shepherds can also be assumed. The foundation walls of a country estate ( villa rustica ) have been exposed from the Gallo-Roman times ; and ceramic finds from this period have been made. The oldest traditional place name ( Wuarnaco in pago vilcassino ) as well as several grave steles found in the area date from the time of the Merovingians . The first verifiable church in the town was built in the 13th century and was replaced by a new building in the 16th century.

- The parish church ( Église Saint-Nicolas ), which was mostly built around the middle of the 16th century, impresses with its west tower stabilized by mighty buttresses , which - with the exception of the Renaissance portal and the dome-like crowning - can still be assigned to the 14th century. - The Guiry Castle is a two-storey manor house from the second half of the 17th century, which was built according to plans by the architect François Mansart . Characteristic is the mansard roof fitted with lucarn windows , the middle part of which ends in a large lunette , which shows the coat of arms of the former owners held by two standing lions; next to it there are festoons . The palace is privately owned and has been recognized as a monument historique since 1942 .
- The Musée archéologique du Val d'Oise , which opened in 1983, displays a wide variety of prehistoric, ancient and early medieval finds from the region.
