The castle Beaumont-sur-Oise in the French municipality of Beaumont-sur-Oise in the department of Val-d'Oise in the region of Ile-de-France was originally built in the Middle Ages built. The ruin of the Spornburg on a rock spur above the Oise has been a protected architectural monument ( Monument historique ) since 1999 .

history

The complex was one of the most important castles in the Oise valley. It was first handed down in a document from the year 953. It had a Romanesque donjon with a rectangular floor plan and a height of 25 meters. The castle was probably built by Matthew I († 1155), Count of Beaumont-sur-Oise , to replace a simple previous building. The place arose around the castle, within the walls of which there was a collegiate (10th century) and parish church . In 1226, Louis XI. Count of Beaumont, he resided in the castle. It was destroyed and rebuilt several times between the 10th and 17th centuries. During the Hundred Years' War the English occupied Beaumont for forty years.

From 1814 the castle was no longer used for military purposes.
