Lanky Fellow - The lonely avenger (original title: Per il gusto di uccidere ) is a spaghetti western from an Italian-Spanish co-production in which Craig Hill , directed by Tonino Valerii, plays the title role. The film premiered on April 25, 1967 in German-speaking countries.
action
Lanky Fellows do not live as bounty hunters like other wanted bandits; he specializes in tracking money in transit through the desert in order to catch bandits interested in it red-handed. In the event of robberies, he clears up among them, secures the money and brings it to the destination in order to demand a share for his services there. After such an action, Lanky comes to Omaha and delivers the gold saved after an attack. In town, the wealthy mine owner Collins offers him a deal: he should deposit the $ 10,000 he just earned in the bank, which is expected to be robbed. If this succeeds, he has lost his money; if he can prevent it, his reward doubles. Lanky accepts. When the bandits actually attack the bank, there are numerous deaths and it comes as a surprise that the leader of the bank is an old friend of Lanky's, Gus Kennebeck. He kidnaps a city dweller - Lanky then takes Kennebeck's son prisoner. The bandits also find the bank empty. When the situation in Omaha has calmed down again, Lanky settles accounts with the leader and his deputy, gets his reward and rides away.
criticism
The work was sometimes perceived as "cynical and brutal" by the critics, the director and actor, especially the main role, were praised by Segnalazioni Cinematografiche , who saw the film fail because of its script, which "allowed too common elements to stand side by side." Christian Keßler remarks that director Valerii was already showing “a keen eye for attractive optical details” on his directorial debut; he too criticizes the script, which presents well-known clichés. The Evangelical Film-Observer praises the “perfection in the technical-formal area”, but accuses the work of not being able to compensate for “the elementary lack of human potency, which manifests itself primarily in the speculative representation of brutal and brutal actions” . Therefore, going to the cinema is not recommended.
