Gerd Martienzen (born March 24, 1918 in Ostend ; † April 28, 1988 in Grafrath ; actually Gerhard Martienzen ) was a Belgian - German actor and voice actor . He is best known as the voice actor in the films of Louis de Funès .

biography

Gerd Martienzen was the son of a German father and a Belgian mother. At the age of three, Martienzen, who until then had only spoken French , came to Berlin , his father's home. There he attended the drama school of the Prussian State Theater and appeared after the war at the Hebbel Theater and the Freie Volksbühne .

In the 1950s he played supporting roles in several films, where he was mostly cast as a Frenchman due to his language skills, including in There comes a day (1950) with Dieter Borsche and Maria Schell .

At the same time he began to work as a voice actor. He lent his very distinctive and extremely dynamic voice several times to Frank Sinatra (e.g. in the attack on the Queen Mary ), Sammy Davis Jr. (e.g. in Frankie and his cronies ), Groucho Marx (e.g. in The Marx Brothers at War ) and very often Louis de Funès . In total, Gerd Martienzen has dubbed around 400 film and countless series roles, including Don Adams as the clumsy secret agent Maxwell Smart ( Mini-Max ) , Ken Curtis as the skydiver Jim Buckley in the very popular adventure series Jump Out of the Clouds , Stephen Strimpell as the Superman blend Stanley Beamish on the series Whenever He Took Pills and Fred Astaire in your appearance, Al Mundy . He also dubbed Klaus Kinski very often, often even in German productions. He was also the German voice of the famous cartoon character Mister Magoo .

He was also involved in numerous radio play productions, 159 times as a speaker and five times as a director.

His blindness led Gerd Martienzen to retire from his profession in 1977. His grave is in the Zehlendorf forest cemetery . His children Wolf and Marion (also known as Marion Marlon ) also became actors and voice actors.
