Mini-Max (original title: Get Smart) is an American comedy series that was produced in color from 1965 to 1970 (except for the pilot episode). The series, a satire devised and developed by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry on the secret agent and crime genre , won seven Emmy Awards and was nominated for 14 more. She was also awarded two Golden Globes .

action

The main characters are Maxwell Smart alias Agent 86 , his colleague Agent 99 and the boss , who all work for the US secret service CONTROL . Secondary characters are Agent 13 and Agent 44 , who lie in wait in the most impossible places, for example in a mailbox or a washing machine in order to observe people or buildings. Excursions into technical science fiction are the robot Hymie , which takes commands too literally, and the forerunner of the cell phone : the shoe phone or variations of it like the sandwich phone. The opponents are spies of the secret organization KAOS , such as Siegfried or Dr. Yes .

Various stars have cameo appearances , such as Johnny Carson (in two episodes), Ernest Borgnine , Bob Hope , Robert Culp and Leonard Nimoy .

Charisma

Individual episodes of the series were broadcast in Germany from 1967 in the evening program of the ARD under the title Supermax, the master spy. ZDF showed other episodes at the beginning of the 1970s under the title Mini-Max or The incredible adventures of the Maxwell Smart . With the exception of the first episode (which had been shot in black and white), the remaining episodes ran for the first time on Sat.1 in 1986/1987 and 1990 . In 2018, the broadcaster Sky Nostalgie repeated all episodes of the five seasons.

From May 3 to July 15, 2010, Arte repeated 108 episodes of the series (excluding the fifth season) on weekdays in the evening program. Four of the five seasons have now appeared on DVD.

Sequels

Two feature films appeared on the series, namely 1980 Die nackte Bombe and 1989 Die nackte Bombe II (alternative title Mach's nochmal, Maxwell Smart) . The films that were also released on video cassette at that time are now sought-after rarities. Even more popular, however, is the Super 8 release of the first feature film.

In 1995 the series was reissued in the USA, in which Zach , the son of Maxwell Smart , succeeded him. The new series, which was broadcast on German-language television from July 21, 1996 to September 1, 1996 on RTL and was entitled Maxwell Smart , was discontinued after seven episodes.

On July 17, 2008, another feature film called Get Smart started in German cinemas . The leading roles are played by Steve Carell , Anne Hathaway and Alan Arkin . At the same time, Get Smart - Bruce and Lloyd completely crazy, a film was produced for the video and DVD market, the plot of which runs parallel to the movie. Masi Oka and Nate Torrence can be seen in the leading roles .
