Masayori "Masi" Oka ( Japanese 岡 政 偉 , Oka Masayori ; born December 27, 1974 in Shibuya , Tokyo ) is a Japanese - American actor and visual effects artist.

Life

Oka was born on December 27, 1974 in Shibuya , a district of Tokyo . His parents divorced a month later. At the age of six, he moved to Los Angeles with his mother . In 1987, at the age of twelve, he was featured on the front page of TIME , the title read: "Those Asian-American WHIZ KIDS". As a child, he had an IQ of 189. In 1997 Oka graduated with a Bachelor of Science , the Brown University . He then worked for George Lucas ' company Industrial Light & Magic , hoping one day to win an Oscar for best visual effects .

From 2006 he played in the NBC - TV series Heroes over four seasons Hiro Nakamura , a Japanese office worker, the time continuum space can bend. In 2007 Oka received the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor for this role . After Oka had a recurring guest role as forensic scientist Dr in the first season of the crime series Hawaii Five-0. Max Bergman had, he was promoted to lead actor of the series with the second season. In 2016 he left the series again.
