Don Adams (actor)
Don Adams (* 13. April 1923 as Donald James Yarmy in Manhattan , New York City ; † 25. September 2005 in Los Angeles ) was an American actor .
Life
Donald Yarmy served as a soldier in the US Marines in the Pacific during World War II . He became infected with malaria when landing on Guadalcanal . After the war he made a career as a stand-up comedian. When he married his first wife Adelaide Efantis in 1949, who appeared as a singer under the stage name Adelaide Adams , he took her pseudonym and called himself Don Adams from then on .
His television career began in 1948. He became known worldwide in the role of secret agent Maxwell Smart (Agent 86) in the comedy series Mini-Max (original title: Get Smart), which was filmed between 1965 and 1970 in the United States and from September 1967 was seen on ARD . He won three Emmys for the role between 1967 and 1969 , and was once nominated for a Golden Globe . He also appeared in serious plays on Broadway . His greatest success as a voice actor was the role of the cartoon character Inspector Gadget , to whom he lent his distinctive voice in the original version from 1986 to 1999. He himself was portrayed as a cartoon character in the 1972 TV series "New Scooby Doo Movies".
Adams was married and divorced a total of three times and had seven children. He died of a lung infection in a Los Angeles hospital in 2005 at the age of 82. He was buried in Hollywood Forever Cemetery . His daughter Cecily Adams died in 2004.
