Checkout, honey! (Original: Check It Out ) is a Canadian sitcom that ran on CTV and the USA Network from 1985 to 1988 .

Plot and characters

The location of the series is the branch of a fictional supermarket chain called Cobb's in Brampton . The plot is the chaotic everyday life of the people who work in this store.

The store manager is grumpy Howard Bannister. He has a relationship with his secretary Edna Moseley, the good soul of the store. At his side is the ambitious deputy head Jack Christian. Young, disinterested Marlene, homosexual Leslie and Jennifer work at the till. The young Murray clears the racks and acts as a packing aid. And Alf has been working as a security guard in the branch for 40 years. The clumsy Viker acts as the caretaker. Every now and then the owner Mrs. Cobb comes by, later also the ambitious TC Collingwood, who works for the conglomerate to which Mrs. Cobb will sell her supermarket chain.

Production and broadcast

The sitcom is based on the British series Tripper's Day , which ran in six episodes on ITV in 1984 . Was produced Check It Out of Taffner & Associates with CTV and USA Network. The episodes were recorded in Toronto in front of a studio audience.

The first episode aired in the fall of 1985. After 66 episodes in three seasons, the series was discontinued.

A German version was released under the name Zur Kasse, Schätze! broadcast on cable channel from 1992 .

Award

For her role as Edna Moseley, Dinah Christie received a Gemini Award in 1987 in the category Best Actress in a continuing role in a Comedy Series .
