The N81 was a French national road established between Chabreloche and Roanne in 1824. It goes back to the route impériale 99. Their length was 55 kilometers. In 1933 it was graduated between Chabreloche and Saint-Just-en-Chevalet and led from Saint-Just-en-Chevalet to Noirétable. This did not change the length. In 1973 it was phased out and in 1978 a new N81 was formed from various other national roads between Nevers and Pouilly-en-Auxois:

  • N 78 Nevers - junction with N79
  • N 79 junction with N78 - Decize
  • N 478 Decize - Luzy
  • N 73 Luzy - Autun
  • N 494 Autun - Meilly-sur-Rouvres
  • New building terrace
  • N 77bis junction with N77bis - Pouilly-en-Auxois

In 2006 this leadership was phased out.
