The N86 is a French national road that was established between Lyon and Beaucaire in 1824. It goes back to the route impériale 104 and had a length of 257 kilometers. While the N7 runs to the left of the Rhône , the N86 forms the axis to the right of the Rhône. Towards the end of the 19th century bridges over the Rhône were built on this route, most of which were counted as a side branch of the N86; some of the N7. The access roads to the bridges were mostly still subordinate to the departments . In 1933 the side branches were given numbers. In 1949 there was a fundamental change in the route at the southern end. The N86 was led from Remoulins over the N87 to Nîmes and the previous route became the N86 L branch . This made it 2 kilometers longer. From 1985, the N86 was relocated on newly built bypasses. This affected the places Bourg-Saint-Andéol , Le Teil and La Voulte-sur-Rhône , among others . In 1990 the section between Lyon and Brignais was renumbered in departmental streets. This goes back to the graduation reform of 1973. In 2006 it was downgraded to the section between Pont-Saint-Esprit and Bagnols-sur-Cèze ; as well as the section of the N94 from the N7 to Pont-Saint-Esprit.

N86a

The N86 A was a branch of the N86 that was laid down in 1933. It ran from the N86 in La Mulatière along the banks of the Saône to the N6. The road crossed the N7 halfway. In 1973 the street was graduated.

N86e

The N86 E was a side branch of the N86, the 1933 La Voulte-sur-Rhône as a bypass road to the junction with the N86 F has been set. In 1973 it was downgraded to a municipal road.
