The Route nationale 814 , or N 814 or RN 814 for short , was a French national road .
history
The route of the national road was determined in 1933 and initially led from Bayeux to Cabourg .
In 1947 the stretch from Courseulles-sur-Mer near the banks of the English Channel was extended to Osmanville in order to open up a national road to the Allied landing beaches. This increased the total length of the road from 56 to 90 kilometers.
In 1973, the national road was graded to various department roads .
The Rocade de Caen has been signposted as national road 814 since 1999 . The north part between Autobahn 13 and Autobahn 84 comes from National Road 413 , and the south part between Autobahn 13 and Département Road 562 (former National Road 162 ) comes from National Road 513 . Originally, these two sections were part of the national road 13 D , a side branch of the national road 13 leading through Caen , the course of which was transferred to the newly built bypass road from 1974 .
