Grandcamp-Maisy harbor

Grandcamp-Maisy is in the Calvados in the region Normandy located commune with 1,563 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) that on November 1, 1972 through the merger of the independent municipalities Grandcamp-les-Bains and Maisy was born. Its inhabitants are called Grandcopais or Grandcamp Maiserais .

Grandcamp-Maisy is located in Bessin on the English Channel , about nine kilometers northeast of Isigny-sur-Mer and about 30 kilometers northwest of Bayeux . There is the Musée des Rangers (Ranger Museum), which commemorates the landing in Normandy on June 6, 1944 , in particular the capture of the Pointe du Hoc , located in the municipality .

Economy and Infrastructure

The main occupations in Grandcamp-Maisy are tourism and fishing, especially scallops . The current fishing port was established in 1926, and there has also been a marina since 1975 .

The next national road is the Route Nationale N 13 Paris – Cherbourg, which runs about six kilometers south of Grandcamp-Maisy. A rail connection existed from 1888 to 1922.
