Ver-sur-Mer is a French commune with 1,625 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Calvados in the region of Normandy ; it belongs to the Arrondissement of Bayeux and the canton of Courseulles-sur-Mer (until 2015: canton of Ryes ). The inhabitants are called Vérois .

geography

Ver-sur-Mer is about twelve kilometers east-northeast of Bayeux on the Atlantic coast . Ver-sur-Mer is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Graye-sur-Mer in the east, Sainte-Croix-sur-Mer in the south-east, Crépon in the south and Meuvaines in the west and south-west.

history

During Operation Overlord , the stretch of the Atlantic coast was called Gold Beach . The British 50th Infantry Division landed here.
